Yesterday while interviewing a prospective employee, she stood up to leave and asked "Are you having a girl?" when I smiled and said "No, its a little boy" Her answer was "oh shucks." (I didnt know people still said that?) For some reason the ignorance of this woman really got under my skin. I have nothing against baby girls, in fact, for a few months I thought Archer just might be a girl... I love girls. But the moment when I saw the obvious signs that pointed to a boy on the ultrasound monitor, I grinned ear to ear.
I think part of me always knew that I would have two boys close in age. Okay thats not completely true, part of me always wanted two boys close in age. I only grew up with a sister, so there was always something mysterious about a brother. We had a house full of bows and Barbie mansions, dance lessons and cheerleading camp. (my poor dad) We knew nothing of sports or GI Joe, and what little we did know came from our cousins and neighbors.
My two years experience of being a boy mom has taught me a few things. Boys are a creature all their own. They are loud and crazy, and they play rough. They like things that make loud noises, make big messes, and things they shouldn't even play with... Like power tools. Boys get the short end of the stick when it comes to the clothing department and the joke that Target calls the Boy's shoe section. Luckily, little boys don't need a lot of shoes!
seriously??? people need to learn how to watch what they say!!!
ReplyDeleteit doesn't matter if you have a boy or a girl, they are ALL blesings from God and that is what is the most important thing...God gives us what he wants us to have and we should all be thankful for His gifts!
Amen Natasha!! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a boy mom too. I have a son who just turned 2 and I am due in July with boy #2. I was hoping for a girl. I was a little sad because we really only planned on 2 kids so I don't know if I will ever have a daughter. But, the reactions and comments I've been getting have really been annoying me. It's almost like it's a big disappointment to people for someone to have all boys. I feel like people just don't seem as excited for me because it's 'another' boy. I can't wait for my son to have his little brother, I hope they are the best of buds and I can't wait to say 'my boys'..like you said maybe there is a daughter in store for me too in the future. If and when that happens I will be a proud mom of boys! I love your blog, and good luck with the rest of your pregnancy! and you are right, Target by me also has slim pickins for shoes for my son!
ReplyDeleteI always wanted two little boys close in age too, and now I have a daughter and she is equally as precious. It's so annoying when people act like they're disappointed with a certain gender. I bet she won't get hired =)
ReplyDeleteI love this post!! Little boys are PRECIOUS!
ReplyDeleteAs a boy mom and a once thought girls only person, I have to say that having that little boy has changed my heart. I could not imagine having a little girl. Boys steal your heart like no other. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteVery well said! Boys are the best! I wouldn't trade my 2 for anything in the world. I honestly don't know what I'd do with a little girl at this point. I'm a boy mom all the way also and I love it!
ReplyDeleteBOYS are the best! I have 2 boys and once thought I wanted a girl. I wouldn't change things for nothing in the world. I am the Queen of the castle and loving every moment of it.
ReplyDeleteLove this! I adore my boy, I truly can't imagine life without my crazy, silly, independent, strong-willed sweet precious boy!
ReplyDeleteI love being a mom of boys! I also grew up with two sisters so being in house of boys is a refreshing change for me :)
ReplyDeleteI could not agree more. Being a boy mom is amazing, and I wouldn't change it for the world. People keep telling me "well you can try for a girl next..." Is is so hard to believe that someone could be satisfied with only boys?? I'd have five more boys if Trevor would allow it, but I think he may have a heart attack!
ReplyDeletewhen i was younger i ALWAYS thought i wanted girls...you know me, i'm as girly as they come, so i didn't know what i'd "do" with a boy when the time came. but now? now, i think i'd LOVE having a boy...and i might, just might want a boy a little more than a girl.
ReplyDeleteNOT that there's any buns in this oven for a little while!

ReplyDeleteI am so happy to be reading this today! We just found out we are having a little boy! Due in August! My husband and I both thought we were having a little girl, but when we seen the undeniable sign that it was a little boy, both of us were over the moon excited!!! However, one small problem I only ever had a sister as well and most of my cousins were girls! So I have no idea what to do with a little boy! But I am sooo excited and eager to learn, and I can't wait for all the adventures! Thank you for telling me what to expect! It's music to my ears!
ReplyDeleteOh, and as for cute clothes...I'm on the hunt!
I hate when people say things like that. I'm the mom to a beautiful little girl and people say things like well maybe you'll get a boy next time. Um, who said there would be a next time and I'm absolutely positively completely happy with my happy and healthy little princess.
ReplyDeleteSo well said! I have a 19 month little boy right now, and I'm secretly hoping the next one (when we decide to have one) will be another boy (although of course we'll be thrilled either way). I never would have thought I'd love being a boy mama so much - it's wonderful! I hate it when people imply that it's a disappointment to have one gender or the other. In fact, I think if that ever happens to me in the future, I'm going to set that person straight!
ReplyDeleteYour family and home are so beautiful - love your blog!
Ditto. Wouldnt trade my boy for the world. There is just something about them....and they love their mama's.
ReplyDeleteThis is so right on! We are expecting a boy (our first baby!) on 4/15 and I am lately getting random comments from strangers asking if I'm disappointed we aren't having a girl. I find this completely bizarre!
ReplyDeleteI grew up with a sister, too. That was it... no other siblings. To me, boys are a mystery and I don't know anything about them but I am so excited for the adventure. And my husband is over the moon - he grew up with a brother and is so happy to be able to share his boyhood things with our little guy.
Love this post! Welcome to the club!
ReplyDeleteI'm expecting my first baby this June...a BOY!! I'm so excited to be a boy mama too! Loved this post!
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree with you - I LOVE my little man and he's only 6 months old. And I know as time passes, I will only love him more and more :) I always thought I wanted a girl growing up - but God had other plans, and He knew EXACTLY what He was doing. I LOVE being the only woman in the house (besides the dogs, lol) and I am so thankful that I don't have to deal with makeup, bras, tampons, dating, etc. with my first child! I was such a hellion to my parents, I can only imagine what my little girl would do to repay me - ha!
ReplyDeleteI think I want a girl at some point, or maybe not. I think my personality is a little to hard core for a girl ... Another boy would be perfect ... but not up to me!
Love reading your blog :) Can't wait to see that sweet baby's face in a couple months!!!
