Home Exterior: Before and Almost After

I realize that I haven't given much of a house update in a while. I wanted to wait until it was "finished" to share everything... but then I realized, it will never be FINISHED. A house is always a work in progress, so I am going to share our progress.

You may remember way back when we started this whole process... our green house with clashing brick and gigantic overgrown bushes? There is really nothing wrong with this shade of green, it just wasn't what we had in mind. Here we are nearly 7 months later with a freshly painted house. We used all Porter Paints color matched to Sherwin Williams colors. We got 40% off at Porter, and so far we are quite pleased. The main color is Sherwin Williams Shoji White SW7042 and the trim is Sherwin Williams Amazing Gray SW 7044. We decided to paint the brick because 1. I LOVE painted brick, but 2. it also made it a more modern ranch, not a 1967 ranch. The painters took it upon themselves to paint the board and batten accent on the porch roof. Initially I wasn't so sure about it, but it has grown on me.
The shutters havent been painted yet, but they will be Sherwin Williams Urbane Bronze. I think the darker color will really help to ground everything.
Since these photos were taken there have already been other changes. The bushes to the right side of the house have been ripped out. The yard has been graded and will be reseeded. The large pine tree to the left of the photo above is also going to be taken out. Its roots have destroyed the yard and the driveway so all of that is on the agenda as well.
The front door still needs to be stained and sealed. I better get on that! I am also trying to figure out what to plant in the front yard and where to put it. It is really hard starting with such a blank slate. We will also be planting some sort of shrubs or plants in front of the steps to hide that unfinished edge.
Keating has been loving the exterior house work. There have been dump trucks and tractors galore! That kid could not be any happier than with a pile of dirt.
Well that is all for the progress today! Stay tuned for more!

  7. I also love painted bricks! I love the purple, gray and white combination, which made your house a lot more appealing. We are also doing some changes with our house paint, and we're doing some "house stalking" to get ideas on how to make our house look fresher and more creative.
