Spring has sprung!

Thank you so much to everyone who responded to my post about baby wise and getting keating to sleep. I read back over my post and it sounded a little selfish so I wanted to clarify.

I dont mind getting up with K at night. I knew becoming a mother would result in a loss of sleep and I am okay with that. But he does need to know how to soothe himself to sleep on his own when he wakes up at night. It got to the point that every time he cried he would only be comforted by nursing. I couldnt just sit around all day and night with my boobs hanging out for him to latch on! :)

Yesterday we started our 3 hour eat schedule at 7 am and I think it went really well. His first nap in his crib he cried but I went in every 3-5 min to let him know that I was there. I picked him up to help him calm down and then put him back in his bed. After the 3rd time, he fell asleep on his own. For two other naps he went down easily on his own.

Last night I let him sleep in his swing in our room again. I wanted to ease the transition to his crib. He slept pretty well. Fell asleep at 8 and I woke up up at 10 to eat, then he didnt wake again until 3:30 to eat again. Hungry boy! He woke up one other time and I shushed him back to sleep. It was much better than him screaming and only sleeping in bed with me.

Today we are back on it and hopefully sleeping in the crib tonight! We will see how it goes!

Here are a few photos for an Easter recap!

Look at my little pouter!

  1. Wonderful pics, the one with him on the chair is especially cute! I read BabyWise and followed the schedule it suggested. Then when GG was around 3 months we began sleep training using the Ferber method. It only took about four nights before she learned to self soothe and before long she didn't need us during the nights. Good luck with everything!

  6. My girlfriend who is a new mommy swears by the book you mentioned! I also think babies NEED to be on a schedule & I didn't read any of what it seems others did from your post.

Thanks for sharing the photos. You are such a cute lil momma!

  7. Your family is just precious! It's so hard finding that "niche" that will eventually become your schedule...I am a firm believe in a routine but I didn't find ours really until my Georgia was about 2 months old- I was really just flying by the seat of my pants until then. I let her cry herself to sleep at 2 months and she has been sleeping through the night ever since. I am also a firm believer in feeding them as much as you can during the day- even if that means a bottle every 2-3 hours- this was the only way that she would sleep through the night! Hang in there! You will find what works best for ya'll!! I love your blog and I love following you!!

  8. Well Shonnie wants an 11x14 of the pic in the chair. Crop it a little to get the stairs out too! Mothers day is coming up! I want to hang it in my bedroom, so get on it when he is at boot camp!

  11. I just wanted to say that you should never feel like you have to apologize or explain yourself when it comes to raising your baby. You are not "selfish" or doing anything wrong - different things work for different people, and you have to figure out what works to make both YOU and your baby the happiest. A happy, rested mother is the key to a happy baby!

Also, you mention in your earlier post that you have been bringing him into bed with you and that you were worried it was dangerous. I just wanted to give you this link to information on guidelines for safe and healthy co-sleeping:http://www.nd.edu/~jmckenn1/lab/faq.html
Most cultures (and ours previously) use co-sleeping methods with their infants and children, and if done correctly and safely, there is less risk for SIDs as well as can make things easier for nursing mothers to rest.

But I don't want you to think this is someone saying "COSLEEP WITH YOUR BABY IT IS THE BEST" as I am sure you get more than enough advice from everyone you know, just wanted to pass on information of how you can do it safely if it is something that you are interested in. Good luck!
