Summer Reading, Summer TV

I don't know what it is about this time of year, but it always gives me the urge to buy school supplies. (I think I may have just taken this line from "You've Got Mail) All of the aisles of the stores are filled with new folders, crayons and composition notebooks. I'm pretty sure I've mentioned it before, but I have a serious affection for composition notebooks. My mom bought me the tiny ones when I was little and I would scribble "notes" in them... I guess it was love at first sight! I just want to scoop them up even though I have no use for them.

At the beginning of the year, I decided that I wanted to read one book per month. So far I have read 7, although two were Fifty Shades of Grey books and I am pretty sure they made me dumber...

I am really enjoying my Kindle. I love how easy it is to just pick up and read wherever. After being thoroughly disappointed with Fifty Shades of Crap and Fifty Shades of Darker Crap, I gave up. I dont see the attraction to an abusive billionaire... you know...besides the billionaire part. I moved on to The Hunger Games Trilogy and wrapped them up this weekend. The books are definitely better than FSOG, but they are not "The Next Harry Potter" like so many people told me. Blasphemy. I would like to see the movie, but I am not excited about Peeta...that is not how I pictured him in the book. I am currently adding to my Kindle list, does anyone have any suggestions? Summer TV has been great this year. Last year, Brad and I started watching "Franklin and Bash". We are huge fans, and I love grown up Zack Morris! If you haven't watched, I recommend tuning in next week. It is a show that you don't really have to follow week to week to enjoy it, and the two are really funny together.

Another show we are watching is Dallas. Brad likes it because he watched reruns of the original with his dad growing up. I had never seen it before, but I enjoy Jesse Metcalfe. Its a win- win for both of us!
I have been waiting all summer for the start of Project Runway. I feel that it has been way too long since I have spent quality time with Tim Gunn. What are your summer shows?

  1. Who said the Hunger Games was like the next Harry Potter. I agree with you 100% there! I never did jump on the 50 Shades bandwagon. I just coudn't get past the horrible writing. Funny you should post, I just put a bunch of reads on my blog today if you want to look. http://www.slpreppystyle.com/2012/07/books-books-books.html

  2. Wow - finally someone has the same opinion on FSOG as me. I embarrassingly read books 1 & 2. I was mad at myself for even wasting my time with book 2. I just ordered the book, "Little Bee" after a few bloggers suggested it.

  3. I just finished The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and it was complex yet fascinating. It's a more difficult read than The Hunger Games trilogy but I liked that. Some people can't handle the violence in TGWTDT but if you can get past it, the story itself is very interesting.

Another series you should DEFINITELY check out if you liked The Hunger Games is Divergent! I read Divergent and its sequel, Insurgent, right after I finished up The Hunger Games and it cured what my friends called, "The Hunger Games Hangover." Check them out!

  4. I haven't started reading the 50 Shades books and don't plan on it- I've heard from more than one person they're not well written! One book we read in my book club and everyone loved was The History of Love by Nicole Krauss. It was a good, quality book!

  5. I haven't read any of the 50 shades books, and I'm glad I haven't after hearing such awful reviews! As for TV, I haven't watched Dallas yet, but I keep meaning to tune in. I am loving Pretty Little Liars for my summer show!

  10. I haven't read FSOG yet, either... But three fabulous books are: Bliss, Remembered by Frank Deford, The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls, and Still Alice by Lisa Genova. Highly recommend all!
