I interrupt my screwed up blog format to make this post, because I just need to write to clear my head.
Do you ever just feel like you are waiting for your big break? Like, sooner or later something HAS to work out? That's how I feel right now. I realize that I have absolutely nothing to complain about, and I am not intending to complain. I have a healthy family, a precious son, a roof over my head, really, nothing to complain about. Maybe I just need some outside perspective?
Here's my situation for anyone new to the blog. When I was 23 I bought a condo type house. It was perfect for me because I was unmarried with no children. I bought it at the peak of the housing boom, (and I paid for it too.) When I got married we listed the house on the market. My husband is the "wide open spaces" type of guy, we wanted something with a bigger yard. It was listed for over a year and a half. We had TONS of lookers... but no buyers. Foreclosures came and went up and down our street. Always way lower priced than ours (Obviously).
Fast forward... we try to rent our home. Our very first showing was a hit! The potential renters wanted to move in within 4 days. We busted our butts to hurry to move out... and then they didn't show up to sign the lease. We have showed it numerous times since, but there is always another house in the neighborhood beating our price. Or people feel like it should be a mansion... (Its a condo people!) Same story as before.
We are taking a loss on renting it, so we are in no means being stingy or trying to make a profit. Just wanting to get it filled.
With all that being said... something's gotta give right!? I feel like I am going to be retiring in this house!
Maybe God was trying to tell us to stay put? We were so excited to have renters that we rushed to move. We thought "FINALLY, OUR PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED!"... or not. Maybe there is a reason we cant get rid of the house? We have the opportunity to move into my in-laws former house. A great fixer up with a MUCH lower payment, yet we cant until we get renters.
Seriously though, SOMETHING HAS TO GIVE RIGHT!?!!?
Have you dealt with this? Is there light at the end of the tunnel? Please tell me there is!

i hope so. we own a house in TN that has been on the market for over a year. lots of lookers, and some offers, but not high enough. we rent a townhouse in arkansas right now, and pay our mortgage in TN. we're moving back to our house in TN in october after our daughter is born b/c i can not deal with paying for both anymore. ugh.
ReplyDeleteoooh girl, i have been thinking good real estate thoughts for you!! i'm so worried about fixing out house up and NOT getting it sold and the hubs will continue his epic commute.
ReplyDeleteI am no expert with anything involving real estate or finances. However, I have hit a new low recently in the finance department, and I can promise you that if you pray really hard about your situation and are desperate for help, God will absolutely answer your prayers and provide what you need. Good luck to you, I know you're tired of dealing with the stress of the condo. It will all work out.
ReplyDeleteI'm in the same boat as you:( but I know God is going to work things out for us. We need our big break too. Ready to pay off debt & "start over."

We have a house in TX and one in IN now. We rented for a year after moving to IN and had the house on the market with no renters. We realized the market is too bad to sell for what we owe on it so we rented it out and bought a house in IN because we could own for what we were paying in rent. We have been lucky to have 2 great tenants thus far but we do lose about $300 per month on that house. We would love to sell it but too many foreclosures are really hurting us. Good luck and let's pray the market turns around soon!
ReplyDeleteHas your RE agent offered no advice? Is your renting price comparable to other rentals in your area? Have you thought about all the added expenses of renting? Tenants are not going to take care of a property as well as someone who owns it, they could staing the carpets, ruin the paint on the walls, not clean the bathroom for months and then you have to deal with mold...
ReplyDeleteMaybe you should just cut your losses, price the house to sell and just move on because in this market you're not going to do anything BUT take a loss.
You know I have been through this! I just remember I had to keep reminding myself that its all in GOD'S time! It sucks that we had to live in our family's basement for 2 years, but because of that we were able to get where we needed to be. I know you hear this ALL THE TIME, bt patience really is a virtue and it sucks but God knows what you all need and when the time is right it will work out...even if it takes forever! :)
ReplyDeleteThis must be a hard time for you guys...
ReplyDeleteMy boyfriend was almost just given a new place to live in, that was so crazy!
We completely trusted in God and He will give whatever you need. So just keep on giving it to Him!
Don't just give in, it will all get better!
Last summer my husband was offered a great job in a new city. We decided to take the opportunity and list our house and move. We planned that hubby would move right away to start the position and I'd stay until our house sold since we were paying 2 mortgages and I needed to work for us to do that. Our house was on the market a month and I was starting to panic thinking hubby and I would be apart for way too long. Turns out that very weekend I started to panic-we got a fantastic offer, sold our house and made money on it! It all worked out beautifully!! Hang in there!! Things always have a way of working themselves out perfectly!! I'll keep my fingers crossed that some great renters come your way!!!
ReplyDeletesorry you are dealing with this :( just hoping everything goes well!

ReplyDeleteoh my gosh, you know I know just how you feel -- I'll be praying for you! I think we bought our houses at the same time . . .FAIL with the timing on our parts!
ReplyDeleteoh no, I'm sorry that really sucks, but I guess on the bright side, you can still afford the house, unlike a lot of people that are having to foreclose. I don't know, I tried... lol... I am really hoping you find renters soon!!! Good luck.
ReplyDeleteThank you all for your kind comments! I am trying to be patient! Asian commenter, I have no idea what you said, seriously please just stop making me delete your comments.
ReplyDeleteI don't know, surely this too shall pass.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry those renters didn't work out... so freaking annoying that you had to rush out like that! I know something will happen sometime, but I'm sure it's tough to be patient after over a year & a half.
ReplyDeleteGood luck, girl! Oh, and I almost posted that pic of you covering your face, but I thought I'd be nice HAHA! ;)
