In September of 2007, B and I were really excited to attend the wedding of our good friends Chris & Michelle. Their destination wedding was on Jekyll Island, Georgia and we were both really excited because we had never been there before.
Forward: B and I had been dating a little over a year. I was under the impression that he didnt want to get married anytime soon. We had talked about the future, but he didnt seem ready to take that step. I was fine with that. He used to say that his theme song was "Ive got a lot of leavin' left to do" by Dierks Bentley. I had just started praying for God to change his heart on the issue of marriage... little did I know that all of this "bachelor" talk, was just a little act! He was way more ready than I had expected!
We arrived early on Thursday and spent time exploring the beach. The tide was out in this photo, so we walked really far out and picked up shells. I almost look naked in this photo.
That night, we hung out with the wedding party on the pier. Here is B with the bride to be and his best friend Michelle.
Missy and Me - We had to keep our feet on the bar the whole time because there were disgusting cockroaches roaming around. EWWWW! Remember that Missy?
B and me
The next morning we woke up to take a bike ride around the island. I now refer to this ride as the "bike ride from hell." We were supposed to be riding to the beach, but ended up in a mosquito infested swamp. Sorry Michelle but you are not a very good bike trail navigator! =)
Here we are in front of the Crane Cottage, two days before we were engaged in almost this exact spot!
B and me at the rehearsal dinner. The location was absolutely gorgeous!
The beautiful Crane Cottage where the wedding took place
We spent the night celebrating an AMAZING wedding and having a blast. After lots of dancing I sat down with a friend to rest. B came up to me and asked if I wanted to go for a walk. I thought it seemed a little strange, but said okay.
We walked from the Crane Cottage to the river and B kept telling me that he loved me and started talking about our future (Im totally clueless). As we're walking I tell him we should go down to the water and sit on a bench. While walking to the bench, I realize that there is someone already sitting near that bench, and say that we should find somewhere else to sit. Being quick on his feet, B says that he was having the wedding photographer take a few photos of us. His reasoning was because our 1 year anniversary had been put off because we had so many weddings that we attended that summer. (7 weddings and 1 was on our actual anniversary)
Me, being the photo lover that I am, and being friends with the wedding photographer, thought it was a fantastic idea! (yep, still clueless) We walked to the bench, and Im thinking we would be doing some sort of portrait session... I stand next to the edge of the river waiting for instructions from the photographer, and to my surprise B gets down on one knee and asks me to marry him! I was utterly COMPLETELY shocked! He pulls the ring box out of his pocket, and I was speechless!
(he made me edit out his bowtie in this photo because the weirdo hates bowties)
Needless to say, the photographer was there to capture the engagement, not take our portrait!
Of course I immediately said yes!!!
This is my crazy excited face!!
Checking out the new rock on my hand! When we got back to the reception, Michelle made an announcement to everyone that we had just got engaged! Apparently, almost everyone knew about the surprise except for me! We spent the rest of the night celebrating and trying to get cell service to call our parents and friends!
It was an amazing way to get engaged and we had so much fun celebrating with all of our friends afterwards!
Disclaimer: For those who are probably wondering. B did this with permission from the bride. Infact, she insisted that he do it while we were in Jekyll Island. We arent crazy attention stealers or anything!

ReplyDeleteHow sweet! I just love hearing people's engagement stories! We got engaged and married before I started my blog as well. I'm kind of jealous of the girls who started blogs before and get to share all the details beforehand.
