Chaos and Clutter

So I admit it, I'm not the cleanest of people. Growing up I was the teenager who's floor was covered in clothes and I "knew right where everything was." Well, fast forward 10 years and I'm still fighting my messy tendencies. The first year we were married our house stayed spic and span for one reason... we were trying to sell it and I cleaned it CONSTANTLY! Once Keating was born we took it off of the market and the cleanliness has gone down the drain.

Please dont judge me as being a slob. I pick up after myself, obsessively clean my shower with the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, and constantly throw junk away... But as much as I dust, it comes back within hours. We have a crazy amount of dust for some reason. No matter how long or often I scrub our shower, there is pink soap scum in the grout, And the clutter.... WHERE DOES ALL THE CLUTTER COME FROM????? It has gotten worse with the baby stuff. Diapers, wipes, random toys, play mats, TWO swings (yes my kid NEEDS two because he is high maintenance!)

My question to you is....What do you do with it all? How do you keep your house clean and organized? What products do you love? Help me!!!

  2. I clean a good clean every sunday...but during the week pick one room per day to "concentrate" on...it really helps! It also helps to tidy up the kitchen everynight before going to bed...just get into the habit of it! But don't be too hard on yourself...your a new mommy! It always takes some transitioning!

  4. I cry until MrBro helps. We have TONS of clutter. & it's random paper/mail clutter. Generally I throw it all away in an annoyed fit..

Oh and I refuse to dust. Hate it. Would rather clean the toilets with a tooth brush without gloves.

I will be stalking this post for tips and ideas.

  5. Change the filters on your furnace - that should help with the dust. I have the same problem and it drives me nuts!

As for the rest...I have housekeeper who takes care of the big stuff like bathrooms and floors etc. Every day I try to tackle one thing like laundry, ironing etc.

  6. I let all the old mail pile up and then I put it into a box. That is how I deal with clutter. It is a flawed method, I admit.

    Our basement is... scary.

  7. I am a clean freak so when B was born I had a break down about not being able to clean it all & had to start doing a room a night & a load of laundry a night (that means wash, dry & put away)just to keep up with it all! I actually like it better this way though; I am not spending a whole portion of my Saturday/Sunday cleaning because most of it is already done!

  10. OH That is so hard. I feel your pain, I really do. The big thing I try to do is after work I do TWO big jobs a night. So say monday bathrooms and vaccum. Then Tuesday mop and laudry. It helps get everything done during the week and leaves the weekends more free. I also follow a 6 week meal plan so I know what groceries are needed and what it for supper without having to think. Leaves my thoughts for other tasks.

  11. that's easy--I don't!!! I try really hard, but as soon as it's picked up 10 minutes later it's a wreck again!! I know my house needs to be really cleaned but I feel like I just pick up the same stuff every single day and don't have time for the down and dirty. . .if I really need feel like I'm drowning in housework and don't have any motivation--I schedule a playdate or have friends over for dinner so I have NO CHOICE but to clean!! :)

  12. also--aren't you getting ready for a trip?? that makes it 10 time worse! we are going away for the weekend and I'm looking around trying to decide where to start!!
one thing that does help (and this will sound silly) after the kids go to bed I'll crack open a beer and get to working. . .for some reason just having a nice cold one to share the load with helps. . .a friend of mine told me that's what she did and I thought she was crazy. . .until I tried it!

  13. Girl, I hear you! I am hyper organized so going to the Container Store or Reading Real Simple is like Christmas morning to me! I do "Spring Cleaning" quarterly and literally just get rid of CRAP. I think the biggest thing for me was learning to throw things away. I hope this helps! Good luck!

  14. You did not know what was on the floor in your room when you were in high school! Do you remember the scrapbook page I did about your room? If you put things in one place and not all over the house it is a lot easier!

  15. I hate clutter, but it definitely piles up around here. We tend to dump all the random crap on our wine cabinet, lol. It drives my hubby crazy b/c I dont want him to touch it till I'm ready to tackle it. Don't get me wrong, its just mail/bags/keys/etc... but still clutter. Funny as a teen I was super clean/organized, motherhood has relaxed me. I even leave crumbs on the floor and dishes in the sink. ::sigh:: lol

  16. I'm so excited to be a new follower of your blog! I too used Magic Eraser and combined it with the Scrubbing Bubbles - and I thought I was doing OK - but then my landlord had to come in and repair our shower and told me kindly that WD-40 does wonders for getting soap scum out of shower doors/shower walls. I guess I missed a spot. For paper clutter we got open file cubes from container store, you can put them in the corner and its easy to file stuff fast - and if you can't think of a file for it you can probably throw it out. Good luck!
